Singer Dr Lover Bowy has revealed that he spent only Shs 70,000 promoting his breakthrough hit song Welaba, which gained popularity three years ago and helped him rise to fame through TikTok. The singer says his experience is proof that good music can find its audience and become popular without requiring huge investments in promotion. Speaking about the song’s journey, Dr Lover Bowy recalled how a woman he met at a bar in Bweyogerere became interested in managing his career before Welaba had gained traction. He said the woman, who was selling slippers and shoes at the time, believed in his potential and insisted on managing him for an extended period. According to the singer, he later suggested that she organise a show in his home area to help push his music. They reportedly organised the event on a budget of Shs 250,000, with Dr Lover Bowy requesting that tickets worth Shs 70,000 be printed, knowing that the money would be used to promote his music.
